Reykjadalur means 'steam valley' and it's exactly that: a gentle trail climbing past boiling mud pots and hissing vents to a stretch of river where hot and cold streams mix to bath temperature. You change on a boardwalk, pick your spot upstream (hotter) or downstream (cooler), and stay until you're a raisin.
It's the easiest proper outdoor experience near the city — 45 minutes' walk each way, 300 m of climb, suitable for families. Your guide tells the geology straight and knows the spots tourists miss.
