Easy⏱ ≈ 8 hours👥 Private · 1–8 guests📅 Year-round🚐 Reykjavík pickup

The short version

  • Completely private — your guide and vehicle belong entirely to your booking
  • Quieter than the classics — one of Iceland's most rewarding regions, without the standard crowd
  • Waterfalls from lava — Hraunfossar flowing out of the edge of an ancient lava field
  • Icelandic history — Reykholt, Snorri Sturluson and the medieval saga world
  • Geothermal power — Deildartunguhver, and how it heats everyday Icelandic life
  • Your pace — take more time where you want it, move on when you're ready
  • Pickup and drop-off directly at your Reykjavík accommodation
  • Local recommendations — food, road trips, hiking, hot springs, the rest of your trip

A different side of Iceland

The Golden Circle may be Iceland's most famous sightseeing route. The Silver Circle is what we recommend when you want something a little quieter.

West Iceland is a landscape of lava fields, geothermal power, waterfalls, farms, mountains and stories stretching back to the Viking Age. On this private day trip from Reykjavík you'll visit some of the region's most memorable places — from the powerful geothermal area at Deildartunguhver to historic Reykholt and the beautiful Hraunfossar and Barnafoss waterfalls.

Because the experience is private, there is no bus timetable to follow. Take your time. Ask questions. Stop for photos. Talk to your guide. And experience one of Iceland's most rewarding regions without feeling like you're following the same route as everyone else.

Why choose the Silver Circle?

Fewer crowds

The Silver Circle receives less visitor traffic than Iceland's most famous sightseeing routes.

A more varied Iceland

Geothermal activity, history, waterfalls, lava fields and rural landscapes — in one day.

Genuine Icelandic stories

This route gives your guide more room to talk about Iceland's history and culture, rather than simply moving between major attractions.

Private means flexible

There's no need to rush because another fifty passengers are waiting.

Perfect for repeat visitors

A strong choice if you've already seen the Golden Circle — or simply want something different.

An easy escape from Reykjavík

A full day in West Iceland, and back in the city for the evening.

The day, roughly

  1. Pickup Your local driver-guide meets you directly at your hotel or accommodation. Leave Reykjavík behind and travel north toward the landscapes of Borgarfjörður in West Iceland. The drive is part of the experience — ask your guide questions, learn about the area, and get a feel for Iceland beyond the capital
  2. Deildartunguhver One of West Iceland's most impressive geothermal areas: powerful, steaming hot water pouring straight out of the earth. Your guide explains — in plain language, not a physics lecture — how Icelanders use this energy for heating, greenhouses and everyday life. Time for photos and a wander
  3. Reykholt On to historic Reykholt, once home to Snorri Sturluson — one of the most influential figures in Icelandic medieval literature. This is where the sagas, medieval Iceland and the country's literary history come alive, told as stories rather than dates
  4. Hraunfossar One of the visual highlights of the Silver Circle: a long series of waterfalls where crystal-clear water emerges through the edge of the Hallmundarhraun lava field and spills into the river below. We give you proper time to walk between the viewpoints — this is one of the photographic moments of the day
  5. Barnafoss A short walk upstream, the same river squeezes through a narrow rocky channel — a completely different scene from Hraunfossar despite being minutes apart. Your guide shares the local folk tale connected to the falls (as a story, not as history)
  6. Húsafell If time and conditions allow, we continue into the Húsafell area — forest, mountains, local stories, and a relaxed break with the chance to buy food or refreshments
  7. Return Relax on the drive back and quiz your guide about the rest of your Iceland trip: restaurants, Reykjavík, the South Coast, the Golden Circle, hiking, hot springs, northern lights — or your next private TINDUR tour. Drop-off at your Reykjavík accommodation, roughly eight hours after we picked you up
